‘Every dark cloud has a silver lining’. We hear this so often. However, when life throws the challenge of disability at you, the dark clouds seem plenty and silver linings are hard to find. Moreover, the joys and disappointments of someone affected by a disabling condition, be it physical or intellectual, are unique and many a times others cannot understand them.

At My Silver Lining, we believe that creating a community of people who are or have faced any kind of physical or intellectual disability, would enable us in gearing up for this challenge. You might be a person who is struggling with a disabling condition or someone who believes he or she has conquered their disability, you might be a parent who is trying to empathize with a child with special needs or a caregiver who has little success stories to share, you might be a social worker who strives to provide equal opportunities to people with disability or you might just be a passer by who was moved by the tale of a person’s special ways of dealing with their special needs, we welcome you to share and inspire us with your positive and negative anecdotes.

Parenting is a challenge in itself. Top it up with parenting a child whose needs differ from that of other children, it could be quite overwhelming. We know that parents of children with special needs are even more special as they unconditionally love their babies regardless of all the struggles they have to go through in conditions that other parents would not even have to bother about. We understand that even the little achievements of your kids are a source of immense joy for you and even though you can’t flaunt about it in front of other parents in a social gathering, its worthy of applause. We wish to build a platform where parents can flaunt about these success stories that would not only bring a smile to our faces but also inspire other parents of children with special needs to hang in there and wait for the day your sun will also shine.

At My Silver Lining, we strongly believe that spreading the right information regarding issues related to any kind of disability is the bridge that will enable us to fight and win this challenge. Our aim is to share knowledge about disability itself, new innovations in technology that are bridging the gap between ability and disability, and about the infinite options that there are for people with special needs, in fields like education, employment and socializing and living independently.

When life has been unfair in not providing you with the basic gear to fight with its challenges, dark clouds seem to shadow the sunshine every day, however, when you spot the silver lining, it all seems worth it…
